November 3 - Day 5 in ICU
What we didn't know at the time is that this day would be the last day in the ICU. Chris and I had agreed to let Emily make her own decision about whether she wanted to visit Uncle Scott one last time. Up to this point she had not been to the ICU. She, without question, wanted to see him. Looking back I underestimated Em's ability to handle this situation. She was amazing. She walked into his room, put on a Darth Vader type mask (more to protect us), stood by his bed, talked to Scott, brought him a dream catcher she made, asked lots of questions and was present in those moments. She went back into his room multiple time that morning.
When we arrived that morning the neurologist was conducting the brain scan. We were to get the results back that afternoon. We continued to pray for a miracle, some small hope of positive news. But that didn't happen. Both the Doctor and neurologist had to give us the incredibly horrible news that Scott had no brain activity, zero brain function and his condition was worsening. His blood pressure was spiking and his heart could stop at any moment.
This was the day we said goodbye to Scott.
Here is the post that Sandy wrote on the Support for Scott Moser Facebook page:
Our wonderful, sweet, beautiful son has left us. Al and I were truly
blessed to have him as our son. We were so proud of the man, brother,
husband, father and friend to so many people. We are in a state of
shock and I don't know what more to say now. We are thankful that he
was not in pain from the moment this happened and he passed comfortably
surrounded by his family who loved him so much. Thank you to all of our
many friends and family for their continued support and prayers. Bless
you all.
